It’s finally December. Santa Claus must be busy preparing all the presents. Santa Claus is often pictured as a figure in the red suits with a long white beard and the big white bag full of presents. In Japan, Christmas was introduced in 1874 and it was 15 years later in 1889 that the idea of Santa Claus was brought in, first as “Santakurou” with a Japanese like nickname. In Canada, it’s said that he has his own postal code “Ho Ho Ho” after his iconic laugh. It might be a fun idea to write some letters with the feeling of Santa Claus to friends and families who you haven’t seen for a while. Our pair of seasonal canelés for this month, “Meli-melo” and “Coconuts Chocolat” are available from tomorrow, the 2nd of December. Meli-melo canelés are named after a French word meaning mishmash in English. It is very flavorful and rich with various fruits preserved in rum on top. Coconuts chocolat canelés are baked with dark chocolate inside of the chocolat dough. The decoration with white ganache and coconut powder reminds of white Christmas.

いよいよ今日から12月。サンタクロースは、クリスマスプレゼントの準備に追われている頃でしょうか。白くて長い髭を生やしたサンタクロースは、真っ赤な衣装を身に纏い、白い大きな袋にクリスマスプレゼントをたくさん入れて肩に担いでいるイメージが世界中で定着しています。日本には1874年にクリスマスが伝わり、15年後の1889年、「三太九郎（さんたくろう）」としてサンタクロースの存在が知れ渡ったと言われています。ヨーロッパやアメリカのサンタさんは「Ho Ho Ho（ふぉっ、ほっほっ）」と特徴的な笑い声をあげることから、カナダにはサンタクロース宛専用の郵便番号「H0H0H0」があるとか。サンタクロースになった気持ちで、しばらく会っていない家族や友人へお手紙を書くのもいいですね。12月の季節のカヌレは 「メリメロ」と「ココナッツショコラ」が、明日12月2日(木)よりお目見えです。「メリメロ」はフランス語でごちゃまぜという意味です。ダークラムに漬けた果実がたっぷりのった華やかなカヌレに仕上がりました。「ココナッツショコラ」はココア生地にホワイトガナッシュを絞り、ココナッツパウダーをのせて仕上げたホワイトクリスマスを想わせる一品です。
