The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics was held on October 10th, 1964. It was the very first Olympic that was held in Japan and also in Asia. Since 1966, the 10th of October was set as “Physical Education Day” to encourage people to have healthy minds and bodies through participating in sports. Many sports events such as athletic festivals are held throughout Japan on this day. The date was moved to the second Monday of October in 2020 to follow the Happy Monday project which encourages Japanese to have longer holidays. It will be called “Sports Day” instead of “Physical Education Day” from 2020. It will be moved to 24th of July for the next year as an exception for the 2nd Tokyo Olympic after 56 years. It will be the last time this year for this holiday to be called “Physical Education Day”. Let’s enjoy exercising under the refreshing weather of autumn. Our pair of seasonal canelés for this month, “Pumpkin” and “Tea, Iyokan and White Chocolate” are available from today, October 1st. Pumpkin canelés are decorated with pumpkin seeds with hand made pumpkin paste on top of the pumpkin dough. The tender sweetness of pumpkin is concentrated in each canelés. Tea, Iyokan and White Chocolate canelés are decorated with white chocolate and iyokan orange peel on top of the dough with tea leaves. 1964年10月10日、東京オリンピックの開会式が行われました。日本そしてアジアでも初めての開催でした。この日を記念して「スポーツにしたしみ、健康な心身をつちかう」ことを趣旨とした「体育の日」が1966年に制定されましたが、2000年からはハッピーマンデー制度の適用により、10月の第2月曜日となりました。運動会や体育祭など、スポーツのイベントが日本各地で開催される賑やかな一日です。2020年から「体育の日」は「スポーツの日」と名前が改められます。また、56年ぶりとなる東京オリンピックの開催にあたり、来年だけ7月24日に移動になるそうです。「体育の日」と呼ぶ祝日は、今年で最後。爽やかな秋晴れの下、気持ちのいい汗を流してこの秋の思い出を刻みたいものです。10月の季節のカヌレは「かぼちゃ」と「紅茶と伊予柑とホワイトチョコ」が、本日10月1日(火)よりお目見えです。「かぼちゃ」はかぼちゃの生地にお手製のかぼちゃ餡をしぼり、かぼちゃの種をそえました。かぼちゃのやさしい甘みがぎゅっと詰まった秋の定番の一品です。「紅茶と伊予柑とホワイトチョコ」は紅茶生地の中に伊予柑ピールを入れ、ホワイトチョコレートと伊予柑ビールをのせました。ホワイトチョコレートのやさしい甘さの後に広がるベルガモットの風味と伊予柑の爽やかさをお楽しみください。
